Corvallis, OR Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Corvallis enforces electrical work through the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code, adopted by Corvallis Municipal Code Section 9.01.140.010 under OAR 918-305-0100, with the same Chapter 9.01 procedures used for every specialty code governing permit issuance and enforcement. Under Section 9.01.100.010, the Building Official reviews the application and construction documents and issues the permit once the work conforms to the code and the required fees are paid; approved documents must remain on site and cannot be changed without written authorization. A permit lapses if work does not start within 180 days of issuance or stalls for 180 days once begun, per Section 9.01.100.050, though the Building Official can grant written extensions of up to 180 days each, and a lapsed permit can be reinstated for half the original fee within a year if nothing in the plans or code has changed.

Section 9.01.100.090 puts the duty on the permit holder to request every required inspection and keep the wiring exposed for inspection until final approval. Because electrical work involves live utilities, Sections 9.01.080.050 and 9.01.080.060 also let the Building Official disconnect electrical service or order hazardous equipment removed or restored to a safe condition when it poses an immediate hazard, after notifying the serving utility, owner, and occupant. Starting electrical work before permitting triggers a special investigation and fee under Section 9.01.100.060, and unpermitted work is subject to the civil penalties in Section 9.01.210.
