Cranston, RI Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

The 1975 edition of the National Electrical Code by the National Fire Protection Association, a copy of which is on file in the office of the city clerk, and which is incorporated herein and made a part hereof by reference thereto with the exception of Section 90-10, "Revisions," is adopted, ratified and confirmed. (Prior code § 8-1) § 15.08.020. Electrical permits. No electrical installation in buildings and other structures shall be constructed, repaired, maintained or installed without a written or printed permit issued by the inspector of electrical installations. The inspector may require that each application for a permit shall be accompanied by such plans and specifications as the inspector may determine. The inspector may revoke any permit should he or she become convinced that the work is being done under such permit in violation of law, or in a reckless or careless manner or has been obtained through misrepresentation. The following schedule of fees shall be charged for the issuance of electrical permits for the installation or repair of all types of electrical installation. Such schedule of fees for permits shall be based on the cost of electrical equipment, materials and labor used for the installation or repair of any electrical project.
