Franklin County, FL Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

5-14 requires a standalone electrical permit before any electrical construction, repair or renovation can begin, on top of the building permit for the overall project. Subsection (b) restricts that permit to contractors who are licensed in the electrical trade, so an unlicensed handyman cannot pull it even with the property owner's authorization. The permit fee is set from time to time by resolution of the Franklin County Board of County Commissioners under subsection (c), and all electrical permit work is governed by the 2010 Florida Building Code as amended, per subsection (d).

5-11(a), which adopts the National Electrical Code of 1987, along with its later amendments, as the Franklin County Electrical Code, alongside the Florida Building and Standard Plumbing Codes; subsection (b) folds in the Code's schedules, tables and appendices, excluding suggested fee schedules, by reference, and subsection (c) rolls forward any later edition or amendment automatically. The Franklin County Building Official administers the electrical code, all violations are reported to the Board of County Commissioners, and the Board can pursue an injunction or other civil action in addition to prosecuting a violation as a misdemeanor.
