Meridian, ID Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to place or install in any building, structure, or premises any wiring, apparatus or fixture for the use of electric current for light, heat or power, or to make any alterations or changes in, or additions to any wiring, apparatus or fixtures for such use, without first obtaining from the city a written permit to do such work. Permits shall be required for any type of electrical work including emergency repairs and other maintenance or repair work as well as new installations. The permit application shall be in such form required by the Building Department.

B. Addition or alteration of approved plans. Any addition or alteration of approved plans and/or permitted work shall require resubmittal and approval before issuance of certificate of occupancy.

C. Permit validity conditioned on inspections. The validity of all electrical permits shall be conditioned upon the completion of the following inspections by the City Electrical Inspector:

1. Roughed in inspection. When electrical work for which a permit was issued is roughed in, permittee shall, in writing, notify the City Electrical Inspector of such, and upon payment of any inspection fee per fee schedule, the electrical inspector shall inspect such work following receipt of such written notice and fee.
