Mosinee, WI Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Sec. 42-1366(a) makes the Wisconsin Adm. Electrical Code, ILHR vol. 2, ch. 16, part of the city's code by reference, along with its amendments and revisions to date. Subsection (b) then requires a permit from the building inspector before installing or altering any electric wiring or other equipment, exempting only repairs or replacements of broken or defective sockets, switches or base receptacles. The permit application must state the planned work, alterations, and the equipment and materials to be used, and any later deviation from that plan has to be resubmitted for the building inspector's approval.

Subsection (c) requires the installer to call for inspection after the wiring is roughed in and before it is covered, or after outside wiring work is finished; the building inspector then inspects and, if the work meets the state electrical code, issues a certificate of compliance, without which it is unlawful to use the equipment. Subsection (d) limits who can do the work: electrical work in the city must be done by an electrician licensed by the city, though a property owner may do repairs or installations on his own property if a permit is issued and the work complies with the article. The license fee for city electricians is set by the common council from time to time and paid to the administrator.
