Tangipahoa Parish, LA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Tangipahoa Parish adopted the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code (LSUCC) under Sec. 12-1, pursuant to R.S. 40:1730.21 et seq., to regulate construction, alteration, repair, equipment installation, use and occupancy of every building or structure in the unincorporated parish. Electrical work on a construction site falls within that adopted code, and Sec. 12-2 establishes the parish's own fee schedule for the electrical power permits the building official issues under it. The fee table lists three electrical permit types: temporary pole power at no charge, a temporary cut-in on the structure at $20.00, and permanent power on the structure at $20.00, which is nonrefundable.

These fees sit alongside the parish's broader building permit fee schedule, which charges $0.15 per square foot for new residential construction and $0.20 per square foot for new commercial construction, with $200.00 of each nonrefundable for project review. Before the building official issues any permit under this section, the fee must be assessed and collected. Contractors and subcontractors working on electrical installations must also be registered with the parish building official and, if contracting for more than $10,000.00, licensed by the state under Sec. 12-3.

Sec. 12-2(c) waives the $20.00 electrical fee for a veteran who is receiving vouchers under the VA Veterans Program and is escorted by a VA employee. The building official and permit office administer these fees; reinspection fees of $50.00, $100.00 or $150.00 apply if a job is not ready, fails to meet code, lacks a municipal number, or is missed.
