Tangipahoa Parish, LA Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Section 32-153 opens with a general prohibition: no person may make loud and raucous noise in the unincorporated areas of the parish that is "offensive to persons of ordinary sensibilities" and renders the enjoyment of life or property uncomfortable or interferes with the public peace and comfort. Subsection (1) then lists specific prohibited acts, including playing a radio, phonograph or musical instrument from a stationary location loudly enough to disturb residents of a dwelling, apartment, hotel or other residence, operating a vehicle so out of repair it emits loud grating or rattling noise, and discharging engine exhaust without an effective muffler.

," except in cases of urgent public-safety necessity, for which permission must first come from the director of public works. window: lawn, garden and household equipment tied to normal repair or upkeep, and noise from normal business operations, are only protected during those daytime hours, subsection (2)e and (2)f. Other categories, including public and private school functions, governmental activities, approved community events, emergency work and law enforcement or emergency vehicle noise, are exempt at any hour under subsection (2).
