Tangipahoa Parish, LA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Chapter 48, article V of the Code of Ordinances sets the parish's general stopping, standing and parking rules for public streets and ways outside incorporated towns. Section 48-113 requires drivers to pull off the paved or main traveled part of the street whenever practicable, and even then to leave an unobstructed width for other vehicles to pass and a clear line of sight to any standing vehicle from 50 feet in each direction. Section 48-114(a) then lists specific places where standing or parking is banned outright, except to avoid a traffic conflict or on an officer's direction: on a sidewalk, in front of a public or private driveway, within an intersection, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, on a crosswalk, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 20 feet of the approach to a flashing beacon, stop sign or signal, alongside a safety zone, within 50 feet of a railroad crossing, within 20 feet of a fire station driveway (75 feet on the opposite side when posted), alongside a street excavation, on the roadway side of another parked vehicle, on a bridge or in a tunnel, wherever signs prohibit it, or wherever parking would block sight of a traffic control device.

Section 48-114(b) separately bars moving an uncontrolled vehicle into any of those prohibited spots. Section 48-117 lets any deputy sheriff or police officer move, or order moved, a vehicle illegally parked in a way that obstructs traffic or creates a hazard.
