The city adopted the National Electrical Code, 2023 edition, as its governing standard for all electrical installations (Sec. 105-159). Under Sec. 105-168, no wiring, equipment installation, alteration or addition can start until the master electrician or sign electrician in charge, or a homeowner doing their own work in their own occupied home, first obtains a permit from the electrical inspector. Exceptions cover only lamp/fuse replacement, plugging portable equipment into existing receptacles, and utility- or communication-agency-owned equipment. All work, including owner-performed work, is subject to inspection and approval (Sec. 105-167).
