Texarkana, TX Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Sec. 26-43 of the Texarkana City Code is written as a flat prohibition with a single exception. No person shall park, or suffer to be parked, any vehicle over the size of one ton on the public streets or rights-of-way of streets.

The phrase "suffer to be parked" widens who is responsible. It reaches a person who allows the vehicle to sit there, so the rule covers leaving a vehicle parked as well as the act of parking it.

The location language is broad as well. The section names public streets and the rights-of-way of streets, and it mentions no zoning district. In Texarkana the ban therefore applies citywide, not just in residential zones.

The size threshold is over one ton, and the ordinance does not leave that to guesswork. Vehicles of over one ton size are "such vehicles as defined by the Texas Transportation Code for registration purposes." How a vehicle is classed for registration under state law is what decides whether Sec. 26-43 applies to it.

The section then gives examples: commercial motor vehicles, road tractors, semitrailers, trailers and truck-tractors. The list is introduced with "include, but are not limited to," so it is not exhaustive. Trailers and semitrailers are named on their own, which shows the rule is not limited to vehicles with an engine.

The exception is tied to purpose. Parking is allowed "for the purpose of loading or unloading cargo, merchandise, or articles from such vehicle." The text sets no number of minutes or hours. What it requires is that loading or unloading be the reason the vehicle is parked on the street, which is why overnight storage of a vehicle over one ton on a Texarkana street does not fit the exception.
