Amarillo, TX Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Section 4-3-1 of the Amarillo Municipal Code adopts the International Building Code and amends its administrative provisions. 12 and bars any inspection on new construction until the site has been surveyed and all property corners physically identified. 6, so lath, gypsum board and gypsum panel product inspections must occur after the material is in place but before plaster is applied or joints are taped and finished, with no carve-out for non-fire-rated assemblies. 7 lets the city charge a re-inspection fee, set by City Council resolution, whenever the called-for inspection is not ready when the inspector arrives, no address or permit card is posted, approved plans are not on the job site, the building is locked or otherwise inaccessible, the job carries an open correction-required notice, or erosion control, trash control, or tree protection was not maintained.

Any assessed re-inspection fee must be paid before the city will schedule another inspection on that job. 1, referenced in Chapter 2-6 of the Municipal Code; an appeal must claim the code's true intent was misapplied, a provision does not fully apply, or an equivalent or better construction method is proposed, and the board cannot simply waive a requirement outright.
