Pawtucket, RI Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Section 247-19 authorizes the Director of Zoning and Code Enforcement to inspect dwellings, dwelling units, rooming units and dwelling premises at all reasonable times to check their condition, and to seek a court order if entry is denied. On the fee side, Chapter 202 Article III sets the cost structure: the City is responsible for the cost of no more than one property inspection per calendar year (§ 202-6). After that, the property owner bears all inspection costs, but only if a prior inspection that same calendar year found a violation; a second inspection with no violation found does not trigger owner-paid costs, and each additional paid inspection is capped at $50 (§ 202-7). For building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work specifically, if a scheduled inspection fails, a second inspection is set once the deficiencies are corrected, and if that second inspection also fails, a $150 reinspection fee applies, due before the final reinspection is approved (§ 202-4).
