Spalding County, GA Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Spalding County's inspection process runs alongside the building permit system created by Ordinance No. 2025-77 on July 7, 2025. Section 8-1006(8)(a) has the building officer inspect a building or its electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing systems during and upon completion of work for which a permit was issued. Section 8-1006(8)(c) lets the director of the Department of Community Development accept reports from recognized outside inspection services once satisfied of their qualifications, though any certificate based on those reports must rest on a written, signed report from a responsible officer of that service.

Before the footer, slab, or foundation wall inspection can be approved, § 8-1006(8)(e) requires the owner or their agent to submit a location survey, called a box check, sealed by a Georgia-registered land surveyor or civil engineer confirming the structure's form boards match the setback lines in Appendix IV. Section 8-1006(8)(f) also requires the jobsite address to be posted in numbers at least four inches tall on a contrasting background before permitted work can start. Under § 8-1006(8)(g), a contractor cannot legally continue work past the point checked by any one of the successive inspections without a written release from the director of the Department of Community Development or a designee, and it is the contractor's or owner's job to clear away anything blocking a required inspection.

A final inspection under § 8-1006(8)(d) is required at every stage of construction and again at completion, before the county will issue a certificate of occupancy or completion.
