As provided for in Section 8-5-2 of this Code, the 2015 Michigan Plumbing Code governs throughout the City of Detroit. As provided for in Sections 8-5-3 through 8-5-11 of this Code, the additions to the 2015 Michigan Plumbing Code are to be read in conjunction with the 2015 Michigan Plumbing Code and, likewise, govern throughout the City of Detroit.

The City of Detroit administers and enforces the 2015 Michigan Plumbing Code under Sec. 8-5-2 through the Buildings, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Department's Plumbing Division. Anyone installing plumbing or a drainage system must file a permit application with the Code Official, on the required form, signed by the owner or an authorized agent and describing the proposed work, per Sec. 8-5-6 (106.3). Applicants delinquent on Blight Administrative Hearings Bureau fines, unpaid Department fees, or an outstanding Notice of Violation are ineligible for a new permit until that matter is resolved.
Violations & Fines
Installing plumbing without a permit, using another person's name to obtain one, or filing a fraudulent permit application is unlawful under Sec. 8-5-6 (106.3.4), enforced by BSEED and prosecuted by the Corporation Counsel.
