Under Chapter 49 of the Omaha Municipal Code, the adopted local plumbing code, no plumbing job may begin until a license holder obtains a permit from the permits and inspections division. Owners doing minor repairs on their own property (faucet or water closet repair, trap clearing, minor water-conditioning or lawn-sprinkler fixes) are exempt from the permit and license requirement. Emergency work may begin first, but the permit application is due by the end of the next business day. Permits also require the master plumber to carry a $1,000,000 insurance certificate and a $10,000 surety bond on file with the city.
