Champaign County's Department of Planning and Zoning enforces the county Zoning Ordinance across unincorporated land near Champaign, Urbana, and Rantoul. Front setbacks are distinctive: they are measured from the street centerline, not the front lot line, at 85 feet on a major street, 75 feet on a collector, and 55 feet on a minor street (Section 5.3). A separate floor still applies from the right-of-way line. Side and rear yards run 5 to 15 feet and 15 to 25 feet by district. In the AG-1 Agriculture district, the county's flagship farmland-protection zone, lots must be at least one acre. Cities like Champaign and Urbana apply their own setbacks.
