Canyon County, ID Building Setbacks & Zoning: Structure Height Limits (2026)

Table 3, 'Height Regulations,' at Canyon County Code § 07-10-21(3), sets the maximum height for a residential structure in unincorporated Canyon County at 35 feet in both the Agricultural Zone A and the Residential Zones R-R, R-1 and R-2. The same 35-foot ceiling applies to accessory structures in those two zone groups, so a house and its outbuildings share one height limit there. Commercial Zones C-1, C-2 and MU-A allow structures up to 50 feet, and Industrial Zones M-1 and M-2 up to 75 feet, but those columns cover commercial/industrial and accessory structures, not residential use, which the table marks 'Not applicable' in those zones.

The section carries a short list of height exceptions that override the 35-foot residential cap for specific structures regardless of zone: transmission poles and lines, telecommunication facilities and private towers with antennas may reach 100 feet (or higher if the Federal Aviation Administration allows it), and church steeples or spires face no height limit at all in any zone except Industrial Zone M-2. A mechanical equipment parapet wall is allowed 5 feet above the base limit in the Commercial and Industrial zones. The current table was adopted by Ordinance 19-038 on August 30, 2019 and amended by Ordinance 20-012 on May 29, 2020.

Within an Area of City Impact, Canyon County Code § 07-10-23 lets the applicable city's own height and setback standards apply instead of the county's, but county and city figures cannot be mixed on the same project. None of this reaches Caldwell, Nampa or the county's other cities outside an impact-area agreement; each sets its own height limit under its own code.
