Canyon County, ID Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Section 04-01-11(3), Disturbing the Peace, splits nighttime and daytime noise into two subsections. quiet hours defined in Section 04-01-03, but subsection B reaches poorly muffled vehicles at any time of day: the code states that poorly muffled vehicles are prohibited within the park except in designated areas or by authority of the park manager, alongside amplified sound and loud conduct covered in the same clause. That means a vehicle with a defective or aftermarket exhaust can be cited inside a Canyon County park regardless of the hour, unlike the general noise rule, which only applies during quiet hours.

The article traces its authority to Idaho Code sections 31-714, 31-828 and 63-908 and was last substantively amended by Ordinance 16-020 in 2016. Section 04-01-13, Motorized Vehicles in the Parks, separately governs where vehicles can be driven or parked, so a vehicle can be both off-route under that section and too loud under this one. Enforcement again runs through park managers and department staff the director deputizes as deputy sheriffs under Section 04-01-05(2), operating on county-owned park and waterway property in unincorporated Canyon County; the rule has no reach on streets or private property outside county park boundaries, and it does not touch parks Caldwell or Nampa operate under their own codes.
