Canyon County, ID Noise Ordinances: Barking Dogs (2026)

Canyon County Code section 03-05-21(3), part of the county's Animals article, makes it unlawful for a canine owner to fail to exercise reasonably necessary proper care and control of his or her canine to prevent it from disturbing the peace and quiet of the neighborhood by barking, whining or making loud or unusual noises, or by running through or across cultivated gardens or lawns not the property of the owner. A separate duty applies to licensed kennels: section 03-05-09(2)C requires that a canine kennel be kept clean and sanitary and that canines be reasonably restrained from annoying the neighborhood or the general public by loud, frequent or habitual barking, yelping or howling, on top of the kennel's own siting rules (no closer than 150 feet to another dwelling absent neighbor consent).

Enforcement falls to the Canyon County animal control officer, who under section 03-05-07 holds the authority of a deputy sheriff within the unincorporated areas of the county and any participating municipalities. This is strictly a county-code rule for unincorporated Canyon County; it does not reach inside Caldwell, Nampa, Middleton, Greenleaf, Melba, Notus, Wilder, Parma or Star, each of which enforces its own municipal noise or animal code.
