In unincorporated Boulder County, residential structures on land platted before August 29, 1994 may reach 35 feet; on other land the maximum is 30 feet, and in no event may any residential structure exceed 35 feet. Some districts allow up to 50 feet for non-residential uses.
Boulder County Land Use Code Article 4 sets maximum building height. On subdivided land with a final plat approved before August 29, 1994, the limit is 35 feet unless a lower height was set through platting. On any other land the limit is 30 feet, unless a subdivision or Site Plan Review approval permits a different height for unique site characteristics, but in no event may any residential structure exceed 35 feet. The Director may require a reduced height as a Site Plan Review mitigation measure. The Article 4 zoning table shows district height caps, generally 30 feet, but 50 feet for Multifamily, Transitional, Business, Commercial, and Industrial districts.
Exceeding the maximum height without approval is a Land Use Code violation; the county can deny permits, require modification, or take enforcement action.
