San Ramon, CA Business Licensing & Operations: Adult Entertainment (2026)

Under Municipal Code § D4-4, it is unlawful to operate an Adult-Oriented Business in San Ramon without first obtaining and continuously maintaining both a Use Permit and a Business License from the City; no such use is allowed by right, and the applicant bears the burden of supplying evidence to justify the permit. Section D4-3 confines the use to the MC (Mixed Commercial) zone and layers on distance separations measured in a straight line between the nearest exterior wall of the facility and the nearest property line of the protected use: a 500-foot radius from any existing residential zone or use, 1,000 feet from any other Adult-Oriented Business inside or outside city limits, and a 500-foot radius from any existing park, playground, religious facility, school, or land zoned Open Space, Parks and Recreation, or Public and Semi-Public.

Those same buffers extend to residential, park, playground, school and religious designations shown in an adjacent jurisdiction's General Plan Land Use Element. D, and a site plan no older than 30 days mapping every residential zone, competing adult business, and church/school/park within 1,000 feet. The Director has 30 days to find an application complete or notify the applicant of what is missing, and the applicant then has 30 days to cure or the application is automatically void.
