Satellite Beach, FL Cannabis Regulations: Buffer Zones (2026)

Sec. 30-622(b) of the Satellite Beach City Code sets the city's only cannabis buffer: no medical marijuana treatment center cultivating or processing facility, and no treatment-center dispensing facility, may locate within 500 feet of the real property comprising a public or private elementary, middle or secondary school. The measurement runs from the nearest property line of the school property to the nearest property line of the real property on which the cultivation, processing or dispensing occurs, not from building to building. Where the activity sits inside a multi-tenant building, the code tightens the measuring point further: the distance is taken from the school's nearest property line to the nearest property line of the specific leasehold or space controlled or occupied by the operator, so a large shopping center cannot rely on the whole parcel's boundary if the licensed suite itself sits closer to a qualifying school.

The buffer applies on top of, not instead of, the zoning-district limits in Sec. 30-622(a) and the commercial/pharmacy and pain-clinic security standards folded in by Sec. 30-622(c), so a site inside an authorized district can still fail siting review solely on the school-distance measurement. The section was adopted by Ord. No. 1149, § 4, on November 15, 2017.
