Ridgewood, NJ Cannabis Regulations: Dispensary Zoning (2026)

Section 244-18, part of Chapter 244, Article IV, states flatly that cannabis and marijuana shops, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers selling cannabis and cannabis products are prohibited in all districts, meaning Ridgewood has opted out of hosting any of these businesses rather than confining them to a single zone the way it does with tobacco and vape shops in Section 244-16. A 2021 amendment, adopted June 23, 2021 by Ordinance No. L. 2021, c. 16), extended the ban to all classes of cannabis establishments, cannabis distributors, and cannabis delivery services as those terms are defined under Section 3 of that state law, but expressly exempted the delivery of cannabis items and related supplies by a delivery service, so a licensed delivery service can still bring product into the Village even though no cannabis business can operate from Village soil.

Because the ban sits in Article IV alongside the tobacco and vape shop licensing scheme, the same purpose clause in Section 244-13, protecting the Central Business District's character and quality of life, is cited as the rationale for excluding cannabis retail entirely rather than zoning it.
