Recreational fires are strictly prohibited within the National City limits. Section 15.28.090 amends Subsection 307.4.2 of the 2025 California Fire Code, adopted by Ordinance No. 2026-2560 on January 20, 2026, so a backyard recreational fire has no setback or permit path in the amended text. The fire department's Community Risk Reduction Bureau enforces it.
