Transient Occupancy Tax
Peoria taxes every hotel and motel room rental at 7 percent of the rental charge under Section 27-147(a), plus an extra 1 percent earmarked for the tourism and event development fund, for a combined 8 percent. The tax applies to each 24-hour rental period and only to the first 30 consecutive days of a stay; renters who stay longer, or hotel employees renting their own workplace, are exempt.
