Pool Permits

Shreveport requires a building permit before installing or altering any swimming pool, and Chapter 22 imposes an unusually hard rule during construction: an in-ground pool excavation must be fenced and locked from the moment it is dug.

Permit first, and fence the hole before you leave the site

Heavy Restrictions

Shreveport Code of Ordinances § 22-52(e)(1)

No in ground swimming pool, whether completely constructed or partially constructed (including the hole in the ground for the pool), whether filled with water or not, will be allowed at any time without being protected by fencing which is locked to prevent access by anyone.

Fencing & Safety Requirements

Shreveport treats hot tubs alongside swimming pools. UDC section 7.3.W keeps a private hot tub out of the front yard and out of required side setbacks, and construction must follow the codes adopted through the state construction code council.

Hot tubs are rear-yard only under the UDC

Some Restrictions

Shreveport Unified Development Code § 7.3.W.1

No private swimming pool or hot tub, or portion thereof, including, but not limited to, aprons, walks, and mechanical equipment, integral to the pool, may be located within a front yard, or within a required corner side or interior side setback.
