Springfield's Chapter 1737 Rat Control ordinance requires business buildings to be ratproofed and rat-free, bans storing garbage in containers rats can gnaw through, and prohibits accumulating lumber, boxes, barrels, cans or similar debris on any premises, improved or vacant, that gives rats harborage. The Commissioner of Public Health enforces it and can order ratproofing or eradication.
