Darlington County allows digital and electronic changing-message billboards as off-site signs, including conversions of existing nonconforming billboards, but each display must hold a message for at least six seconds and change over no faster than one second. Freeway-Facing Signs

Outdoor advertising signs along Darlington County's interstate corridors must sit at least 1,200 feet from any other outdoor advertising sign, 10 feet back from front and side property lines, and within 600 feet of both a qualified business and the interstate right-of-way. Interstate-facing faces may reach 672 square feet, well above the 378-square-foot cap elsewhere in the unincorporated county.
