Playing a radio, stereo, musical instrument or other sound-amplifying device loudly enough to disturb the quiet of anyone in a dwelling, hotel or other residence is banned under Darlington County Code § 22-97(3). The sheriff's department enforces it, and citizens can also seek enforcement through the magistrate's court.

Sound amplifying devices. The playing of any radio, record player, tape recorder, television, musical instrument or sound producing or sound amplifying device in such manner or with such volume as to annoy or disturb the quiet, repose or comfort of any person in any dwelling, hotel or other residence is prohibited.
Vehicle Noise
Unincorporated Darlington County treats excessive vehicle noise as a criminal noise violation under Chapter 22, Article III. The county bans unnecessary horn use, driving vehicles so out of repair that they grate, grind, rattle or screech, and repairing or maintaining motorized vehicles within 500 feet of a residential dwelling when the work creates loud or disturbing noise. The Sheriff's Office enforces the rule, and violators face a misdemeanor with a fine up to $200 or 15 days in jail.
