Greene County requires a barrier around residential swimming pools under the 2012 International Residential Code (Appendix G), adopted by the County alongside the rest of the 2012 International Codes for unincorporated territory. The barrier must be at least 48 inches above grade with no more than a 2-inch maximum vertical clearance from finished ground (measured on the side facing away from the pool). Openings in the barrier must not allow passage of a 4-inch-diameter sphere. For above-ground pools, the pool wall itself may serve as the barrier. Doors with direct pool access must have an alarm listed to UL 2017 that activates within 7 seconds and sounds at least 30 seconds.
