Maui County bans hibachis, grills, and similar cooking or heating devices on balconies, under overhangs, or within 10 feet of any structure at multifamily buildings, under fire code section 16.04E.230. One- and two-family homes are excluded from the ban, and sprinklered buildings with piped-in gas or electric grills get a narrow exception.
