HVAC & Mechanical Noise

Mesa County does not set a decibel limit for HVAC units, but it does require them to disappear into the site design. Section 8.05.A.3 of the Land Development Code requires outdoor HVAC equipment on commercial and multi-family sites to be incorporated into the building and landscaping design and screened from every property line.

3. Outdoor storage, HVAC equipment, trash collection, trash compaction, and other service functions shall be incorporated into the overall design of the building and the landscaping plan. Views of these areas shall be screened from visibility from all property lines and separated from pedestrian areas.

Generator Noise

Generators run at an RV or camp site on a Mesa County residential lot can't operate between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., must sit at least 50 feet from any neighboring dwelling, and have to meet Colorado's statutory noise ceiling under Section 6.04(F)(4)(b) of the Land Development Code.

(6) No generator shall be located within fifty (50) feet of a dwelling on an adjoining property. (7) Generators shall not be used between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Generators shall be located so noise is not directed toward adjoining properties. Generators shall adhere to the noise limit requirements of Colorado Revised Statute §25-12-103.

Delivery Truck Noise

Mesa County bans nighttime delivery, loading and trash-removal noise at commercial and multi-family sites unless the operator proves it is quiet enough. Section 8.05.A.5 of the Land Development Code prohibits delivery, loading, trash removal or compaction operations between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., unless sound barriers cut noise to 45 decibels or less at the adjoining property line.

5. No delivery, loading, trash removal or compaction, or other such operations shall be permitted between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. unless the applicant submits evidence that sound barriers between all areas for such operations effectively reduce noise emissions to a level of forty-five (45) db, as measured at the lot line of any adjoining property.
