Car Alarm Limits

Nash County's noise ordinance makes loud, disturbing sound a public nuisance countywide, but it carves out an exception for vehicle alarms. Noise from a burglar alarm or security device on a car, truck or other vehicle is exempt from enforcement as long as it shuts off within 30 minutes of being triggered. An alarm that keeps blaring past that window loses its exemption and exposes the vehicle owner to the same penalties as any other noise violation.
