Rodent Control
County Code § 26-16(j) requires everyone in unincorporated Pender County to store refuse in solid waste receptacles or detachable containers kept covered with tight-fitting lids at all times, specifically so trash does not create harborage for rodents and vermin or become a fire hazard. The Pender County Solid Waste Department can cite property owners, occupants and commercial establishments whose containers are left open or overflowing.

(j)Refuse. All solid waste shall be placed and maintained in refuse solid waste receptacles or detachable containers as specified herein. Refuse shall be stored in a manner that will not provide harborage to rodents and vermin and will not create a fire hazard. All refuse receptacles and containers shall be kept covered at all times with tight fitting covers until the solid waste is disposed.
