Shed & Carport Rules
Unincorporated Rutherford County requires a written building permit from the Building Inspector before anyone builds a shed, garage, workshop, storage building or boathouse, per County Code Sec. 3-28(b). The Inspections Department charges a flat $150.00 fee for these residential accessory structures under Sec. 3-37 and Appendix F. The county has no zoning ordinance, so no accessory-structure size or setback rule exists outside the watershed protection district.
