Anyone in Tippecanoe County's zoning jurisdiction who wants to rent a dwelling short-term as a transient guest room, transient guest rental, or transient guest house must first get a permit from the Administrative Officer, and the home's exterior and signage stay unchanged under the same section.

Tippecanoe County Unified Zoning Ordinance § 4-11-13(b)

The owner of a dwelling desiring to use such dwelling for a transient guest room or as a transient guest rental or as a transient guest house shall first obtain a permit for such use from the appropriate Administrative Officer.

Primary-Residence-Only Rule

An accessory dwelling unit in unincorporated Tippecanoe County can never be rented as a transient guest house, and if the owner lives in the ADU as their primary residence, the main house on the same lot loses the right to operate as a transient guest house too.
