Washington County Code of Ordinances § 9-4-3

Except as hereinafter provided, no person, firm or corporation shall be entitled to collect damages and no court in this state shall award damages for any trespass of livestock on farms, subdivisions and other private property in the county, if such land, at the time of such trespass, shall not have been enclosed by a legal fence.

Agricultural Zoning Protection

Washington County's A-5 through A-40 agricultural zones exist, by ordinance, "to preserve appropriate areas for agricultural use," and the code bars any use that is "inimical to the continuance of agricultural activity." A separate chapter lets landowners petition to form state-recognized Agriculture Protection Areas on top of that zoning.
