Flint's City Code imposes a juvenile curfew on minors in public places, generally from about 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with later start times for older minors, subject to standard exceptions for parents, employment, supervised activities, and emergencies. Flint Police enforce citywide.
Flint's juvenile curfew is set in the City Code. Minors under 18 may not be on public streets, alleys, parks, or other public places within the City during curfew hours, typically 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. β with some Flint provisions allowing a slightly later start (11:00 p.m. or midnight) for 16-17 year olds and earlier for younger minors. Standard exceptions apply: accompanied by a parent or legal guardian; traveling directly to or from lawful employment; attending or returning directly from an adult-supervised school, religious, or civic activity; or responding to a genuine emergency. Flint Police may detain a suspected violator and transport the minor home, to police headquarters at 210 E. Fifth Street, or to a designated juvenile shelter. Parents who knowingly permit violations may also be cited. Genesee County Juvenile Court at the Family Court handles patterns.
A first violation typically brings a written citation in 67th District Court; subsequent violations escalate, and parents who knowingly permit violations face fines too. Patterns may trigger Genesee County Family Court juvenile-probation involvement. The minor is not booked into adult detention for a curfew offense alone.
