Jacksonville prohibits minors under 18 from public places between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM Sunday-Thursday and between 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM Friday-Saturday. Exceptions include parental accompaniment, work travel, supervised school or religious events, and emergencies. Repeat violations escalate to parental fines and mandatory parenting classes.
Jacksonville Ordinance Code Β§603.402 prohibits any minor under 18 from being in a public place, on the premises of any establishment, or in a motor vehicle in public places during curfew hours. Curfew runs 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM Sunday through Thursday and midnight to 6:00 AM on Friday and Saturday nights. The ordinance has been amended over time to refine exceptions and enforcement.
Defenses include accompaniment by a parent or responsible adult, parental errands without detour, direct travel to or from lawful employment, attending an official school or religious activity, emergency response, emancipation, First Amendment exercise, and interstate travel. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is the primary enforcer and runs curfew sweeps in high-activity areas.
A first violation is a civil citation. Subsequent violations within 12 months are misdemeanors carrying fines up to $500 and possible parenting classes. Parents who knowingly permit a violation are subject to citation. Minors may be referred to diversion programs.
