Joliet Code of Ordinances Section 21-18 establishes a juvenile curfew with two age tiers. No person aged 16 or 17 may be present on any public assembly, building, place, street, or highway between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM unless accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or approved companion at least 18. No person 15 or younger may be out between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM under the same conditions. Exceptions include returning from work, school activities, emergencies, presence in a vehicle directed by a parent, or exercising First Amendment rights. Parents or guardians who knowingly permit curfew violations are also subject to penalties. Parents are liable for fines or restitution if the minor fails to pay.
