West Bloomfield, MI Curfew Laws: Juvenile Curfew (2026)

Section 15-148, first adopted as Ord. No. 64 in 1970 and carried forward by Ord. No. 63A in 1974, sets two curfew tiers in West Bloomfield Township. Subsection (a) bars any minor under 12 from loitering, idling or congregating in a public street, alley, park, school or other place normally open to the public, including shopping centers and places of amusement, between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., unless accompanied by a parent, guardian, or an adult the parent has delegated to supervise the child. Subsection (b) extends a lighter version of the same rule to minors under 16, running from midnight to 6:00 a.m., with the accompanying adult required to be at least 18, and it adds an exception for a minor on an errand or other legitimate business directed by a parent or guardian.

Subsection (c) makes the parent, not just the minor, criminally responsible: a parent, legal guardian or other custodian who assists, aids, abets, allows, permits or encourages a violation, whether by an overt act, a failure to act, or a lack of supervision, is guilty of a misdemeanor. The subsection also creates a rebuttable evidentiary shortcut for prosecutors: a child's mere presence on a covered public place during curfew hours is prima facie evidence that the parent or guardian violated the section. The Code cites MCL 722.751 et seq., Michigan's juvenile curfew enabling statute, as the state law basis for the local ordinance.

The West Bloomfield Police Department is the enforcing agency, and officers may stop and question minors found in violation before contacting a parent or guardian.
