West Bloomfield, MI Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 16-22, part of the original park regulations enacted by Ord. No. 105-A on July 21, 1986, sets the operating hours for the township's community parks defined in Section 16-16: Bloomer Park, Sylvan Manor Park, Bloomfield Knolls Park, West Bloomfield Community Sports Center Park, Marshbank Park and any additional parks the township or its Parks and Recreation Commission later approves. Subsection (a) fixes the default hours at 8:00 a.m. to sunset year-round, though the township may post different hours at a specific park, and gates to parks and to boat launches such as the Bloomer Park launch on Middle Straits Lake are locked once the park closes.

No person may enter or remain in a community park after posted closing hours without the township's written permission, so an evening visit that runs past sunset without such permission is itself a violation independent of any other misconduct. Subsection (b) is a companion rule reaching daytime as well as nighttime closures: even during normal park hours, a person may not use or occupy an area or facility the township has separately closed to the public, such as a ballfield under maintenance or a beach closed for water-quality reasons.

Chapter 16 does not set its own fine for a Section 16-22 violation, so a citation defaults to the Code's general penalty in Section 1-10: a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days in jail and/or a $500 fine, with each day of continued presence potentially charged separately. West Bloomfield police, the Parks and Recreation Commission's staff and the ordinance enforcement officer patrol and post the closing-hour signage that triggers the section.
