Abilene, TX Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 22-4, most recently amended by Ordinance No. every day. The rule carries six built-in exceptions. Peace officers, physicians, ambulance personnel, City employees, and public utility employees may be in a park during closed hours while performing their duties. Anyone simply driving through a park on a dedicated through-street, rather than using the park itself, is unaffected. The Parks and Recreation Director can authorize civic or educational meetings or entertainment at other hours, and attendees covered by that permission are exempt. People camping in Seabee Park and Johnson Park are exempt too, but only for stays of up to forty-eight hours in the designated campsites there.

Kirby Lake Park is carved out of Section 22-4 entirely, meaning the overnight closure does not apply to it at all. The City must post at least two legible signs stating the closing hours in each affected park, with a sign at every vehicular entrance where the park has one. Abilene Police and Parks and Recreation staff enforce the closure, and the section traces back to the 1965 Code and Ordinance No. 77-1981.
