Meriden, CT Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Meriden sets its park curfew inside the general park-rules ordinance rather than a separate curfew chapter. City Code § 150-2A(6) states that all parks and watershed areas open at sunrise and are considered closed 1/2 hour after sundown, so the closing time shifts with the season rather than sitting at a fixed clock hour. The subsection carves out exceptions: designated camping areas within the parks, and locations where Parks and Recreation Department-authorized activities such as tennis, softball, baseball, or a permitted special event are underway.

Beyond the standard sunrise-to-half-hour-after-sundown schedule, the same subsection gives the Department of Parks and Recreation authority to close or restrict the hours of any individual park or facility without advance notice, which the City has used for maintenance, storm damage, or safety closures. Hubbard Park carries its own added limitation under § 150-2A(20): on weekends and holidays, use is restricted to Meriden residents only, layered on top of the general hours. Enforcement of the after-hours rule, like the rest of Chapter 150, falls to the Meriden Police Department, working with City personnel and private security under § 150-2B(1).

Anyone found in a park after the half-hour-past-sundown closing, outside an authorized exception, is subject to the chapter's general fine of $50 to $90 per violation under § 150-2B(2).
