Rothschild, WI Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Village Code Article III of Chapter 416, adopted July 28, 1997, gives the Chief of Police authority to establish closing hours for Village parks rather than fixing a single hour in the ordinance itself. Section 416-5 requires those hours to be posted in at least one place in the park, and the Public Works Department is directed to cooperate in erecting and posting the signage. Once posted, no person may be within a Village park during the time it is closed to the public; presence alone after the posted closing time is the violation, without any requirement to show additional misconduct.

S. Highway 51, or the Walking Bridge at River Street Park over the Wisconsin River and Lake Wausau, and Article II bars swimming or wading from Village-owned landing areas like the area near the Rothschild Pavilion and the St. Therese Boat Landing except at designated swimming areas. Because the actual closing hour is set administratively by the Police Chief and posted on-site rather than written into the code, the specific time can change without a new ordinance; the posted sign at each park is the controlling notice for enforcement purposes. Violating the park-hours article, like the swimming articles in the same chapter, is subject to the Village's general penalty at § 1-2.
