Doral, FL Drone Rules: Recreational Drones (2026)

Doral is located directly adjacent to Miami International Airport (MIA), with the airport's eastern boundary touching the city. Most of Doral falls within Class B controlled airspace with altitude ceilings as low as 0 feet in areas closest to the airport runways. This means recreational drone flights are effectively prohibited in portions of the city nearest MIA. In areas where some altitude is available, FAA LAANC authorization is mandatory before any flight. Recreational operators must check the B4UFLY app or FAA airspace maps to determine if flight is possible at their specific location. Florida's Unmanned Aircraft Systems Act (FL Statute 934.50) preempts most local drone laws, but federal airspace restrictions are the primary constraint in Doral. When flying is permitted, operators must register drones over 0.55 pounds, fly below the local altitude ceiling, maintain visual line of sight, yield to manned aircraft, and never fly over people or moving vehicles.
