Amarillo, TX Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Amarillo caps fence height by location relative to the required front yard, not by zoning district. Behind the front yard line, on or within ten feet of the property line, Sec. 4-10-267(a) allows up to eight feet of fence or wall height above adjacent grade; electrical substation screening can run to twelve feet including any security fencing on top. Inside the required front yard itself, Sec. 4-10-267(b) drops the limit to four feet, with corner-lot carve-outs: the four-foot cap applies along the shorter street frontage and within ten feet of the longer one, but the longer frontage can run a fence up to eight feet if the lot sits on a cul-de-sac within a Public Improvement District (Sec.

4-10-267(b)(2)). Sec. 4-10-267(c) lets residential properties on residential streets put a four-foot fence between the front property line and the sidewalk, and an eight-foot fence on the corner-lot side down to the sidewalk; where no sidewalk exists the fence must stay four feet off the back of curb, or twenty feet off the pavement edge if there is no curb either, and three feet of clearance is required around any trash receptacle in the right-of-way. A fence placed in the right-of-way is never allowed along an Arterial street, and the owner is liable for all costs if the City requires it removed.

Separately, corner lots must keep any fence, wall, hedge or shrub under two and a half feet within the 45-foot sight triangle at an intersection under Sec. 16-3-76, regardless of the yard it sits in.
