008 sets fence and wall height by location within a residential lot. Outside the required front yard, on side or rear property lines, a fence can rise up to 7 feet and may be solid or topped with decorative lattice; anything taller has to meet the setback rules that apply to a house or accessory building. Inside the required front yard, the limit drops to 42 inches. On a corner lot, the same 42-inch cap applies inside the visibility triangle formed by extending the two street-frontage curb lines to their intersection and drawing a line connecting the property lines 50 feet out from that point, so a driver can see past the corner.

Where the ground is not level on both sides of the fence, the code measures height from the finished grade on the higher side to the top of the fence, and owners cannot regrade dirt just to gain extra fence height. Nonresidential and mixed-use properties get more room: fences and walls in side and rear yards can reach 8 feet unless a project's mitigation conditions require otherwise. Any fence, in any zone, also cannot block visibility at a driveway or street intersection; if the city finds one creates a safety hazard, the owner has 10 days after notice to remove or modify it.
