Camarillo, CA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

020 of the Walls, Fences, and Landscaping chapter sets Camarillo's baseline: walls and fences up to six feet are allowed along all side and rear yard lot lines, while anything in a front yard is capped at three feet. In the corner cutback area of corner lots, mature landscaping, walls, fences or other obstructions cannot exceed three feet unless the director of public works determines the open type of landscaping proposed still provides adequate visual clearance for drivers. Tennis court enclosures get a carve-out: fencing around a court in the rear half of a lot may exceed six feet, but the material must be wire mesh or similar and no more than forty percent solid on its vertical surface, so the enclosure does not read as a solid wall.

On a reverse corner lot, a fence along the side yard facing the street is held to three feet if it provides rear-yard access. The section also addresses sloped lots: where the ground level within five feet on either side of a fence differs by more than two feet, the wall may gain one foot of height for every two feet of grade difference, capped at eight feet total, and the design must be approved by the department of public works. Existing walls and fences built before the current rule took effect are allowed to remain unless they create a public nuisance or hazard.

050 layers on top of this: at uncontrolled intersections the sight-triangle cutback is measured fifty feet back along the front and side street property lines (thirty feet for properties approved before April 26, 1995), and at signal-controlled intersections the required stopping sight distance follows the Caltrans Design Manual, ranging from 275 feet on a 25-mph street up to 600 feet on a 55-mph street.
