Cape Coral, FL Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Fence and wall regulations for Cape Coral are found in the Land Development Code (LDC), Article 5 (Development Standards), Chapter 2 (Accessory Structures), Section 5.2.7 (Fences and Walls). Residential fences generally may not be erected within the front setback lines of a residential lot, and side and rear yard fences are limited to a maximum height of six feet. An eight-foot maximum applies along sides where a residential property abuts a commercial or professional use. On waterfront lots, any fencing within 20 feet of the rear (water-side) property line must be open mesh above a height of three feet to preserve view corridors and canal access. Recreational facility fencing may be permitted up to ten feet. Fences may not extend forward of the principal structure's front facade. Sight-visibility triangles at corner lots and driveways are separately enforced. Permits are required for fences and are administered by Cape Coral's Department of Community Development. Cape Coral is in unincorporated Lee County for animal services but operates its own land development code.
